DBA Research Question:
How to solve technical problems in VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) conditions? Which capabilities enable leaders to successfully manage severe problems in a VUCA environment? How can leaders and firms develop the relevant skills and competencies?

Keywords:

Abstract:
For traditional problem-solving, the current industry procedural standards and technical toolboxes are proven effective and the norm in many engineering and production environments. However, not all problem situations and environments are the same and not all problem-solving efforts are effective. For my research, I introduce a new category of critical problem type of a ‘rare event’ SHIT problem (Severe, Highly Visible, Information Deficient, and Time-bound) where an augmented approach is needed.
