This study examines whether social representations influence FTSE listed company directors’ investment concerning decisions relating to corporate investments in Sub Saharan Africa. Drawing on data collected from 40 semi-structured interviews of company directors, the study's main finding is that nearly all directors hold social representations relating to sub Saharan Africa that predispose them to view it as a region to avoid and where not to invest. This study therefore suggests that where directors hold social representations, such representations will operate as an unavoidable influence, which will lead to avoidance of sub Saharan Africa.
